Undergraduate Advising
General Advising
Students at the Klipsch School have many avenues available to them regarding advising. Many students self advise by using the degree audit. Others use the BSEE handout available from the EE Office (T&B 106), from the Freshman advisor, online, or posted in the building. Students may also request a record check at anytime (one may need to allow a few days notice depending on when the request is made). Students are required to have a record check done when they are in EE 311, before they take their capstone (to verify capstone eligibility), and their last semester at NMSU (to verify they qualify to graduate).
If a student wants information about a particular area of electrical engineering, the student should contact one of the area contacts. These faculty can help students decide on courses in the specialty areas, what jobs are available in their area, and help students with selecting internships and Co-Ops.
General questions about degree requirements, transfer of credits or any other questions or problems that a student is having can be brought to the Freshman Advisor (even if the student is no longer a freshman). All faculty may advise students, and a student should feel free to contact any of the faculty with questions that they have.
Freshman Advising
The Klipsch School has a dedicated advisor for all incoming freshman students. The Freshman Advisor works with each student to design a first-year program to meet their preparation and needs. More information can be found on the freshman academics page.
Transfer Advising
The Klipsch School has a dedicated advisor for all incoming transfer students. The Transfer Advisor works with each student to design an incoming program to meet their preparation and needs. More information can be found on the transfer academics page. The transfer evaluation process can take a long time, so the earlier transcripts are sent to NMSU, the better the placement you will receive. A preliminary placement can be made based on the student's transcript copies. Students should allow ample time for review and evaluation of these records before meeting with the advisor. Transfer evaluations do not become official until certified through the registrar.
Specialty Area Advising
Each of the departmental specialty areas has one or more faculty to assist students with course selection, advice on co-ops, and related information to help each student plan an appropriate selection of classes for their degree program. The area advisor information for the current semester is found on the contacts page.

Graduate Advising
The choice of specialization on the graduate admission application form helps determine an appropriate initial graduate advisor. This advisor is assigned as part of the graduate admissions process and it is intended to be a starting point in the student's program to give the student a point of contact with the Klipsch School. A student may change their graduate advisor any time during the graduate program; however, most changes are best made in the first few semesters. Choosing a graduate advisor involves several factors, such as compatibility, specialization, and availability of research support. If at any time in your graduate program you want to change your graduate advisor, download and print out the change of advisor form. Fill in all required information. Obtain a signature from your new advisor. Then take the completed form to the ECE office. After putting a copy in your file, the form will be forwarded to the Graduate School.
The full catalog listing for the graduate program in the Klipsch School can be found on NMSU's graduate catalog page.
